Last day of 2014, and what a year it has been for Counterparty! We have accomplished so much as a community, and we have even bigger plans for 2015.
For now, let’s look at what we’ve been up to during the Holiday season.
From the Team
We had some exciting news from the foundation this week: the launch of the Counterparty Merchandise store. The store offers Counterparty-branded items, such as T-Shirts, mugs, mousepads, etc., to everyone interested in wearing our colors and showing support by helping fund the development of our project. Our lifetime and honored community supporters will receive $70/$200 coupons upon registration, which they can spend in the store. Everyone else is free to buy the merchandise via credit card or Bitcoin.
The Foundation also updated its membership tiers, offering new benefits to its community supporters. For the full list of benefits visit the Join the Foundation page.
In other news from the team, our London meetup group just reached 100 members. If you’re near London, be sure to join us on our next meetup scheduled for January 26.

This week we had three interesting articles discussing Counterparty: Bitcoin’s Decentralized Financial Exchanges vs. Wall Street’s Pandora’s Box discussing the Medici project, The Second Wave of Blockchain Innovation by Swarm, and 8 Ways to Counterparty by David R. Sterry providing an overview of the various Counterparty use cases.
James D’Angelo published an interesting video titled Bitcoin 101 – A Million Killer Apps – Bitcoin’s Big Bang of Disruption discussing smart contracts. Since Counterparty is pioneering the smart contracts technology (as mentioned in the video), we’re sharing this for anyone interested in learning more about it.
From the Community
The biggest news from the community this week is shutting down the old Counterparty Wiki (https://wiki.counterparty.io) and replacing it with new GitHub Community Wiki. As with the old wiki, everyone (with a GitHub account) is welcomed to contribute to the development of new content or updating of existing content. Please note that some links on the sidebar, such as the Technology and Developers Guide, link to the OfficialWiki repository restricted to Counterparty team members. The reason for this is to make sure the information on those pages is always up to date and correct. The rest of the content is hosted on the CommunityWiki repository and is open to public contribution.
Development Updates
We had a new counterpartyd version release this week: v9.49.3, with a lot of code refactoring, bug fixes, improved logging system and a new feature – the new version now allows for providing public keys manually through the API and CLI: “when composing transactions, the pubkey of the source address (which hasn’t been used before) must be passed as a parameter (e.g. with pubkey=)”.
